I've received more calls than I ever have previously – Mangesh Yadav on joining RCB
RCB focused on strengthening the youth in their championship squad, landing the likes of Mangesh Yadav, Satvik Deswal, Vicky Ostwal, Vihaan Malhotra, Kanishk Chouhan while also adding seasoned campaigners like Jordan Cox, Venkatesh Iyer and Jacob Duffy.
Out of all the buys, Mangesh Yadav has impressed heavily with the left-arm seam that he brings into the mix, often clocking 140 kph. Early on, he would often angle the ball away from the right-hander but over time, he has learnt the art of getting the ball back in as well.
Talking to ESPNCricinfo, Mangesh opened up on the newfound excitement which has followed suit after he was bagged by RCB at the price of INR 5.2 crore. Mangesh said, “I've received more calls than I ever have previously. But these are things I'll have to deal with going forward.”
Shedding light on the familiarity that he will be playing alongside in RCB, Mangesh added, “I didn't know how all of it feels, but I'm blessed to have a lot of people from my own state, like Rajat [Patidar] bhaiyya, Venky [Iyer] bhaiyya and Anand Rajan [former Madhya Pradesh seamer] sir for guidance.”
Highlighting the massive leap that he got from the very streets to the hallowed rings of the Indian Premier League and the emotions that follow, Yadav stated, “Not having to ask my father for money felt like an achievement. Today, I still don't know how to process the feeling of getting such a massive bid. I want to make my parents feel comfortable. For that, I have to work hard and can't get carried away.”
Revealing how his parents always supported him, Yadav further added, “My mother used to lob balls at me in front of our house in Boragaon when I was seven. That's how I started. My father drives trucks. I realised the value of money and hard work when I saw him wake up every morning at 3am and drive through the day on dangerous roads.”
He concluded by stating, “He has worked hard for the family all these years. Now, I want to make him comfortable. My youngest sister [they're four siblings] loves cricket and is an aspiring bowler. I want to be able to inspire her to play full time too without worrying about finances."
