Video – Starboy Devdutt Padikkal lights up weekend with glittering century in Colombo
Devdutt Padikkal looked in great rhythm in India’s practice match as he smashed a commanding ton in India’s warm-up against Sri Lanka.
Padikkal stayed unbeaten for 142 at the end of Day 2, anchoring the innings with perfection while India had their fair shares of glory and hiccups as well in Colombo.
Padikkal walked out to bat at number three when India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal without a run on the board. However, the southpaw didn’t look fazed at all. In fact, just on the third ball of the innings, he carved an exquisite cover drive against Vishwa Fernando.
With every succeeding ball, Padikkal grew in confidence and his shots grew commanding. He brought up his half-century in just 61 balls, driving against Ramesh Mendis. The best thing about Padikkal was that he never let the momentum drop and kept the scorecard ticking.
He brought up his half-century with another boundary against Ramesh Mendis. This was simply the extension of the whirlwind that just started to build in the last few balls with Starboy smacking Isitha Wijesundara for three back-to-back fours. He retired hurt for 103 before coming out to bat later in the day.
On his return to the crease, he looked in complete control as well as the runs kept on coming. By the end of the day, he racked up 142 runs, staying unbeaten as India found themselves in driver’s seat with just six adrift of the Sri Lanka total in the first innings.
