Would try and extract the most from the youngsters – Shreyas Iyer

Team India will take on Zimbabwe in the first T20I of the three-match series later today in Harare. The Men in Blue will be coming into this series on the back of a questionable form.

However, Indian captain, Shreyas Iyer said that there were important lessons for his team in the last two contests.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Shreyas Iyer said, “I don’t think that extensively about the losses. And if we are playing at this level, then obviously their team (Zimbabwe) will also be great in terms of preparation. They will have better ideas about the ground conditions of Harare.”

He further added, “As I said earlier that the quicker we adapt, we will have to do it. Given the fact that such a mishap has happened in Ireland, it was more of a reality check for us. That is why the quicker, we will create awareness, we will get our execution right, the results will also turn in our favour.”

The Indian cricket team has quite a few youngsters who will be a part of this Zimbabwean tour. Iyer was also quite positive about the youngsters, stating that the kind of learnings that these young guns come in with, that is significantly a lot for them to fare at their peak.

Iyer stated, “I am sure that they have had enough practice. They also had a decent gap to prepare for the series. The mistakes that have happened in the past, we are working hard to get them rectified. I don’t think that there is not much advice that I can give to the youngsters.”

He further added, “They have also learnt a few hard lessons in the last two series and they have done so first hand. And if they are in particular situations on the ground, that is when I come in. This is also my first time in Zimbabwe and I will also be looking forward to adapt as quickly as possible. As a captain, I would try and extract the most from the youngsters.”
