You have to be pretty good at home to do well in the IPL – Andy Flower

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a great start to the IPL 2026 season, securing four wins from their first five matches held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Securing three out of three wins at home initially was a massive boost for the Royal Challengers after their bumpy start to the IPL 2025 season, specifically at home.

Talking on RCB’s Trophy Quest - The Second Act, RCB’s head coach Andy Flower opened up on the terrific turnaround of affairs at home for the Royal Challengers in IPL 2026. He was also joined by Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, who discussed his memories of RCB playing at home.

Andy Flower, speaking particularly about RCB's loss to the Delhi Capitals at home, said, “You can learn a lot from both wins and losses. So that game that we lost against Delhi Capitals at Chinnaswamy, in that game, we fought our way back into the game after losing a bunch of wickets in the middle. Our bowlers really did a good job in getting that game close.”

He further added, “Rajat made some good decisions on bowling some of our big bowlers early to give us a chance of putting them under pressure. There were a few lessons in there around losing wickets in clusters, so embedding the importance of being able to adapt in real time to differing conditions on that square was important for us to address. So good lessons for us.”

Bobat chimed in, stating, “Lots of great performances at home this year. Obviously, you know, we like our games against CSK, lots of rivalry there, so it was good to put in a good performance against them.”

Bobat also reflected on his memories at Chinnaswamy, adding, “A lot of my memories at home actually revolve around like watching Dev just pick up off his hips or pull it into the stands for six. So like a bit of Virat as well, Virat aiming on the up over covers, which he likes doing at home, and it will be with a real handful.”

Andy gave an ultimatum stating, “I think if you're gonna do well in the IPL, you have to be pretty good at home. And we turned that around this year, and we ended up winning four out of five games at Chinnaswamy.”
