Taking a break - the right tonic

Never underestimate the value of a break. While it does not take away forthcoming challenges, the opportunity to switch off, do something different, reflect and relax while on annual leave has great value to mind, body and soul.

Even the “Greats” stumble

So the soccer craziness of the FIFA World Cup has come to an end. Wimbledon is also over for another year. Do you notice something that both these tournaments, and many others, have in common? Something that can happen to any team or anyone, at anytime, regardless of the amount invested in terms of time, money or passion.

There will always be times when the so-called “greats” stumble and fail.

Reflection and Review

Despite a sound strategy, RCB’s IPL7 will be remembered for failure to translate strategy into the effective on-the-field execution necessary to take our team into the play-offs.

There were high levels of confidence and great expectations of the newly constituted RCB team following IPL auction 2014. Media, cricket commentators and fans alike were generally very positive about the strategy of retaining a small core of potentially match-winning players – Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers – and improving the balance within the team by bolstering bowling (Starc, Aaron and Dinda) and acquiring a good finisher (Morkel). The appointments of a new head coach (Dan Vettori) as well as new batting and fielding coach (Trent Woodhill) and bowling coach (Allan Donald) were also well received.

The countdown has begun

Following day 1 of the 2014 IPL auction, RCB Chairman Dr Vijay Mallya said: "The first day of the Auction went very well for RCB. We are on track to achieve our objectives and compose a competitive and well-balanced team. We are very happy to have acquired Yuvraj Singh who will not only strengthen our batting but also gives us another bowling option. We have significantly strengthened our bowling with Mitchell Starc, Varun Aaron and Ashok Dinda - all genuine pace bowlers. Plus we addressed our need for a good finisher with the acquisition of Albie Morkel."

Listening is an art!

Since inception, RCB has taken the heading of this newsletter to heart. We pride ourselves on being good listeners, especially when our ‘fans speak’. We’ve listened to your opinions and thoughts on player selection for the forthcoming IPL Auction. Now, as we prepare for the auction, your input will be considered in our strategies. ALL will need to wait and see the outcome.
