Preparing for the future

‘If you don’t know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else’(Yogi Bera). Fortunately at RCB, we have a very good idea of where we are going and are putting concrete plans in place to get there. Of course we have chosen a very exciting path forward, one that will keep our loyal fans enthralled and excited at each turn.

Talking of the road ahead, three young RCB stars have embarked on their own exciting paths. Three of RCB’s young stars of the future - KL Rahul (vice captain), Harshal Patel and Sandeep Warrior - were recently named in the India u23 squad. Well done to all.

At RCB, we are also preparing to embark on some exciting new paths in the future. Our focus is currently off the field as we wait until after next months Champions League before starting major IPL 7 planning. An exciting new off field initiative is the development of our inaugural sports lounge bar in Bangalore. Advanced discussions have been held and the supporting paperwork set in place to support this initiative as it rolls forward.

We are also in the process of developing software for monitoring players and tournaments around the world as well as exploring development of an RCB academy. While our merchandise platform is taking a bit of time to resolve, I can assure you that our merchandise will be available online via our service provider (Ticketgenie) until further notice. Another exciting new initiative due to launch soon, this time on field, is an RCB corporate challenge championship. Watch this space for news on these exciting new initiatives in the near future!

Our partner Axe has also released the RCB “clicker” ads shot during the IPL in May, featuring Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, TM Dilshan, Zaheer Khan and AB De Villiers on multiple TV channels. We are hoping the National Geographic Channel “Inside the IPL” documentary (prominently featuring RCB) will be released before the end of the year.

This update would be incomplete without commentary on the recent excellent on field action and success of RCB players who continue to showcase real talent and skill of the highest quality.

KL Rahul scored 162 against Goa recently and Vijay Zol (173 and 128) scored centuries in the youth tests against Sri Lanka recently. Zol was duly rewarded for his fine performances by being named in the India A squad for the series against New Zealand later this month. We congratulate Christopher Barnwell on being named in the West Indies T20 squad against Zimbabwe. Chris was also at his best in the CPLT20 when he helped his team – Guyana Amazon Warriors – defeat the Jamaica Tallawahs by 5 runs after taking 2 wickets while defending 10 runs in the final over. Karun Nair was also at his destructive best in the Safi Darashah All-India tournament for the KSCA Secretary’s XI. He scored 256 and then 97 off 101 balls against Assam CA. Saurabh Tiwary scored 110 for Jharkhand CA. KP Appanna took 8 wickets, including 5/85 in the first innings against Goa for the KSCA XI. Syed Mohammed took 3 wickets and scored a ton for Jolly Rovers against TSC in the 5th round of the TNCA senior division league. Mayank Aggarwal scored 195 and Karun Nair 104 for the KSCA XI in the semi final of the Safi tournament.

On the international scene our Indian captain Virat Kohli scored his 15th ODI ton (115 against Zimbabwe) and led India to his first series win as captain. He became the fastest to reach 15 ODI hundreds in the game (in only 109 matches). We congratulate Virat too on bagging the prestigious Arjuna award. TM Dilshan was in great form against the South Africans in Sri Lanka recently, scoring 115* and 75* to make life difficult for the Proteas. Captain of the India A team, Chesteswar Pujara, played a captains knock and scored 109* against the South African A team to qualify for the series final against Australia A in South Africa. He followed this up with a super ton (140) in the first 4-day test match against the South Africans.

Next month is already Champions League. We wish our fellow IPL teams competing the best of luck and inspiration. To our fans, enjoy the exciting cricket that is bound to be played over the next month or 2, and don’t forget to watch out for some of RCB’s exciting new initiatives that will take shape over the next few months.
