So near, yet so far
We saw it all this IPL! Great catches. Out-of-the-stadium batting.Tight bowling. Sadly, it was not to be. Once again we missed out narrowly on qualifying for the playoffs.
However, all champions have to absorb losses. And all champions keep on playing until they get it right. While the trophy may have eluded us (for now), RCB once again produced many magical moments during IPL 6.
Who can forget Chris Gayle’s 175* world record innings, Virat Kohli’s fantastic 50’s and great fielding, AB De Villiers’ innovative stroke-play and high strike rates, Ravi Rampaul’s pace and superb catching, Syed Mohammed’s canny breakthroughs at crucial times, KL Rahulshowing glimpses of sheer talent in making his IPL debut and Jaydev Unadkat’s incredible bowling? It was great cricket and entertainment, from start to finish.
Off the field a range of sponsor engagements and activations kept us on our toes. Brand RCB is proud to be associated with the following sponsors: 7UP, Axe, Flying Machine, Reebok, Royal Challenge, McDowell’s No 1, Kingfisher and Washington Apples, while the Signature After-Match Parties brought some social balance to a very busy cricket schedule. Despite off the field commitments, our unrelenting focus and priority throughout was ‘cricket’ – the passion shared across players, fans, management and owners.
Anyone who visited Chinnaswamy to watch a match will testify to a particularly great RCB stadium experience. Digital LED panels, graphics, general information, stats, caricatures and music created an awesome in-stadia fan vibe. Team RCB would like to thank everyone who made the effort to come to the stadium and experience the fun and excitement first hand. Seeing you waving your red or green team flags and hearing your cheers inspired Team RCB to win 7 out of 8 home matches.
We are particularly proud that our RCB audience is always knowledgeable, fair and appreciates good cricket and talent, irrespective of whether we win or lose. Throughout the tournament, the in-stadium experience remained electric, safe and comfortable. A special round of applause for our White Mischief cheerleaders too! Many fours and sixes kept them on their toes in very warm conditions.
Now it is time for reflection and introspection. Time to gain feedback from all stakeholders and role players. Time to listen and to start planning our course for 2014, drawing on the lessons of 2013.

He was the Team and Operations Manager of the Nashua Cape Cobras cricket franchise and was appointed the Project Manager at Newlands Cricket Ground for the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 South Africa 2007 tournament.
