The countdown has begun

Following day 1 of the 2014 IPL auction, RCB Chairman Dr Vijay Mallya said: "The first day of the Auction went very well for RCB. We are on track to achieve our objectives and compose a competitive and well-balanced team. We are very happy to have acquired Yuvraj Singh who will not only strengthen our batting but also gives us another bowling option. We have significantly strengthened our bowling with Mitchell Starc, Varun Aaron and Ashok Dinda - all genuine pace bowlers. Plus we addressed our need for a good finisher with the acquisition of Albie Morkel."

So our strategy was achieved, our squad is known and the countdown to IPL7 has started!

While we await formal confirmation of the match schedule for the Indian leg of IPL7, the match schedule for the UAE leg is in place. We are already in the advanced stages of preparations for departing for Dubai. While it’s going to be wonderful to connect with our fans in the UAE, we will remain in constant digital contact via #RCBTweets and www.royalchallengers.com with our local fans. Perhaps I can encourage our fans in India to make the trip to the UAE too?

While the excitement of an IPL auction was taking place, other RCB greats were once again displaying their quality to a global audience. Virat Kohli’s 6th test century helped save India in the 2nd test against New Zealand. He also achieved a career best ICC test ranking position of 9th and was called on to captain India in the Asia Cup. His 136 in India’s opening Asia Cup match was a treat to watch. It also marked his 19th ODI century in only 124 innings – a feat which saw him breaking the record held by RCB teammate Chris Gayle (19 ODI hundreds in 189 innings).

Meanwhile, innovative RCB stroke player and keeper AB De Villiers set a new world record, scoring 12 consecutive 50 plus scores in test cricket and beating the previous record held by Sir Viv Richards. AB also reached 7000 career test runs recently.

It’s also great to see Chris Gayle recovered from his injury in time to represent the West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup. We hope he remains in good form for RCB come IPL 7. It is also wonderful to note that Muttiah Muralitharan will be leading the MCC side in the Emirates T20 tournament in Dubai.

We are excited to have signed up new partners (soon to be formally announced) for 2014. Much interest has been shown by external companies keen to partner with RCB. We thank them for their support and promise our whole-hearted support as they come on board.

I hope you have been following the Inside IPL documentary series, in which RCB is featured very prominently, on Friday nights at 9pm on the National Geographic channel. You can expect even more insights into the world of RCB via RCB TV on our digital platform.
