‘Tis the season to be jolly…

Season’s greetings, to all our wonderful fans. We hope your festivities with family and friends will be cherished and enjoyed. We have so much to be grateful for. But first…let us remember the passing of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela – one of the greatest human beings to have lived. May we learn from him and live by his example.

Love is in the air, with weddings galore. We congratulate our director PA Murali and his family on his daughter’s recent marriage. Congratulations to my RCB colleague, Nikhil Sosale, who finally took the plunge and married his sweetheart Malavika. Congratulations to Vinay Kumar who found time in his busy schedule to marry his long time girlfriend, Richa.

The inaugural RCB Corporate Championship, held over the month of November 2013, saw the cream of Bangalore corporates take to the field to display their cricketing skills. A total of 16 teams battled it out in 32 games over 4 weekends, with the final at the spectacular MA Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home of RCB. The cherry on the top was the participation of ‘spin greatMuttiah Muralidharan. Murali was the super sub – available to each team reaching the semis and finals for one critical over of their choice. The Super Sub innovation contributed to a wonderful vibe and was enjoyed by all. Well done to all semi finalists - Amber Group, HP, Amazon and VM Ware – and a hearty congratulations winners HP on beating Amazon in the final.

A special website page was created ((http://www.royalchallengers.com/corporate-cricket-championship) which allowed fans to cheer for their team and follow the tournament. More than 400 fans registered and passionately followed the tournament, digitally cheering for their teams. The Best Bowler was the Chief Exec. Bowler, Amazon’s Praful, taking 7 wickets with cunning variation and accuracy, and the Best Batsman award went to HP’s Vagesh on scoring 129 runs in majestic style. Player of the Championship was HP’s Vinod M who scored 175 runs and took 8 wickets overall. The digital “Login to Cheer” award was presented to Amber Group fans for their passion and loyalty to their brand. Relive all the action of the inaugural RCB CCC on www.royalchallengers.com

There was exciting Ranji Trophy action, with Mayank Agarwal scoring 90 on debut. Sheldon Jackson hit 140 against UP in Rajkot. Zaheer Khan took his 650th first class wicket and his 34th five-wicket haul. Abhinav Mukund scored 240 for Tamil Nadu against Jaydev Unadkat’s Saurashtra. Jaydev took 4/99 in the same match. Chesteshwar Pujara is on fire and hit his 24th first class hundred. KL Rahul scored 158 against Vidarbha and former RCB player Abrar Kazi made his Ranji debut in the same match. Abhimanyu Mithun recorded his best first class bowling figures of 11/110.

On the international front, Virat Kohli was at his best again against the West Indies, scoring 86 and 99 in the recent ODI’s. Pujara scored 113 in the second test against the West Indies and we were indeed proud to see Zaheer Khan return to the Indian squad for the tour to South Africa. Vijay Zol was announced as India u19 captain for the ACC Asia Cup.

IPL 7 is on the horizon, with an IPL planning workshop held in Singapore recently. The workshop was most productive and the rules and regulations for IPL 2014 will soon be officially released. RCB will continue to strategise as we apply our minds to player retention and strategies for 2014 and beyond. Don’t be shy! Let us know what you would do if you were the chairman of the franchise, or captain or coach of the team for 2014?

December has been a month of new beginnings, as we congratulate our veteran logistics operations assistant Nayarana on his appointment as Logistics Manager of the Karnataka State team. We also congratulate colleague Rajeshwar on becoming the head KSCA curator at the new Alur Three Ovals. We welcome back Brijesh Patel, who was elected as the KSCA Hon. Secretary at their recent AGM elections and we also acknowledge and thank Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and their team members for their hard work at the KSCA over the past 3 years, especially regarding the operations and infrastructure for the Royal Challenge-KSCA cricket academy.

Watch out for our regular competitions and games, as we bring excitement and entertainment to the RCB family all year round. We strive to share a new RCB campaign or initiative via the website on a regular basis. The latest “Gaylestorm” game on http://www.royalchallengers.com/gaylestorm/ was a great innovation and very well supported. This simple, yet highly entertaining, game offered prizes that included RCB merchandise and autographed memorabilia items. Watch out for what comes next!

Best wishes to all RCB fans, their families and friends as we enter the final stretch of 2013. We look forward to making 2014 a most memorable year for RCB fans, during IPL 7 and all year round.
