Virat Kohli's teammate in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, Saurabh Tiwary is a left hand middle order batsman from Jharkhand. A great fielder, a built finisher, and with hair like MS Dhoni had in his early years, the hulky Tiwary can mow down bowling attacks with his unorthodox technique just like his state mate. He made his first class debut for the Jharkhand senior team in 2008, he scored 593 runs in 5 games at an average of 98.83 and leading Jharkhand to victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the Plate League in 2010.

Saurabh Tiwary joined the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2008, getting regular games for the side after his phenomenal 2009-10 Ranji season. Playing the role of a pinch hitter and finisher as required, Tiwary's blitzkriegs in the middle helped them reach the final in 2010.

Tiwary's performances in domestic cricket earned him a place in the ODI squad against Australia and New Zealand in 2010. He made his longer format credentials known in the 2011 Emerging Players Tournament in Australia as well, where he made 229 runs in 3 games at an average of 57.25 and a top score of 151. Losses hurt but not as much as abject surrenders do. CSK's bowlers had derailed RCB’s chase when Saurabh Tiwary came to bat. He struggled but he batted, remaining unbeaten on 42 off 34 to see that the team wasn't bowled out; that they went down fighting and by a margin that did justice to the brilliance they had shown through the tournament.

RCB had to break a losing streak and this game had already see-sawed between the two teams at the end of every over of the chase. Tiwary had been anchor while Chris Gayle brought the game back from the brink of a loss. He watched from the other end as AB ransacked Ashish Nehra in an incredible over but with 3 to win off the last ball, it was Tiwary’s job to finish. Nehra went full, Tiwary dug in and sent it flat over the long on boundary for a six.
