We know him as the master batsman, his warm smile giving you the indication that he will take care of any situation. AB de Villiers, with his brilliance with the bat and his role as the captain of the South Africa Cricket Team, makes one believe that cricket takes up most of his time. But it doesn’t.
T20 is a batsman’s game but bowlers aren’t mugs. They come up with their variations, the carrom ball, the slower bouncer, even the intentional half volley hoping for a mishit. Batsmen have to be on the top of their game all the time, figuring out new ways to hit the ball and new parts of the ground to hit them to. And no one does inventive batting in T20 better than AB de Villiers.
We spoke to Danielle de Villiers at the Stadium right before the KKR game.
Picture this… A man walks past a group of pretty young girls… as he passes they start to point, giggle and swoon. Sounds familiar right, something like an Axe ad? Well, you can say the AXE Effect is on because this is a sight you’ll see nearly every day during the IPL.
Daniel Vettori, one of the finest bowlers in RCB, has returned to training after recovering from an injury. With Muttiah Muralitharan in the side he may not be a regular in RCB’s starting XI but he is an integral part of the team, mentoring the youngsters and giving much needed inputs as ex-skipper. There is no doubt that Vettori will be needed at crucial times in the current season to help the team out.
Virat Kohli was the only Indian who could find a place in ICC’s T20 Team of the Tournament; Suresh Raina was included as the 12th man. Kolhi managed to impress with his consistent performances, his highest score of 78* came against Pakistan. RCBian Chris Gayle too made it to the team. Gayle played a vital role in West Indies’ World Twenty20 campaign. He made 222 runs in 7 matches, his highest score in the tournament was 75*.
RCB Auctions 2012 was a one-off chance for fans to bid and own the most precious RCB merchandise, specially autographed by various celebrity guests on Sid Mallya's show, 'No Boundaries.' It was pre-decided that proceeds from the auctions would go to NGOs that the highest bidder of each product chose.
Chris Gayle, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers form a batting line up to die for in T20s. RCB thrilled the crowds again this season and the M Chinnaswamy turned into one big carnival every time the men in red and gold played in Bangalore. Despite the superb batting, cruelly, the team fell short of making it to the play offs on net run rate. But still, runs were plundered, records were broken and innings that will be remembered and talked about for years to come were played this season by RCB batsmen. Here’s a look at who did what this season:
Morne Morkel ripped through New Zealand’s batting, taking 6/13 but Kane Williamson stuck around and hit a century to see NZ safely to a draw in the third Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington today.
