Despite a sound strategy, RCB’s IPL7 will be remembered for failure to translate strategy into the effective on-the-field execution necessary to take our team into the play-offs. There were high levels of confidence and great expectations of the newly constituted RCB team following IPL auction 2014. Media, cricket commentators and fans alike were generally very positive about the strategy of retaining a small core of potentially match-winning players – Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers – and improving the balance within the team by bolstering bowling (Starc, Aaron and Dinda) and acquiring a good finisher (Morkel). The appointments of a new head coach (Dan Vettori) as well as new batting and fielding coach (Trent Woodhill) and bowling coach (Allan Donald) were also well received.
Just days after fellow RCB teammates Virat Kohli and Vijay Zol won top honours at the CEAT cricket awards, RCB stalwart AB de Villiers was adjudged the South African Cricketer of the Year last night. De Villiers pipped new South African Test captain Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock for the award.
RCB captain Virat Kohli was adjudged the CEAT International Cricketer of the Year in the 17th CEAT cricket awards. While he scored a healthy 359 runs for RCB in the just concluded IPL, Kohli has also been in tremendous touch in the international circuit over the last few years. The premier Indian batsman had previously won the prestigious award in the 2011-12 season.

RCB made two changes to their line up from the previous game with Nic Maddinson’s replacement Rilee Rossouw coming in for Albie Morkel and Yogesh Takawale making way for Harshal Patel.
The Royal Challengers had a disappointing day at Abu Dhabi, posting just 70 on their debut at the ground and losing the game against the Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets.
Virat Kohli won his third toss and decided to chase against KKR in Sharjah. Mitchell Starc backed his decision, bowling an absolute peach of a delivery to dismiss the Kolkata skipper for his third duck in a row. Albie Morkel then picked up the in-form Manish Pandey. Kallis and Chris Lynn then had to ensure the team did not lose any more wickets without hitting over the top managed to reach the score of 42 at the end of the 6th over.
