The first event of the calendar: RCB Fan Summit 2012 was held on 28th January, 2012. The vision behind this Summit was the RCB mantra: "For the fans; by the fans". 20 fans were invited from across India; The invite was based on their innovative ideas to invite new fans and engage the fans and also, their dedication to work for the RCB Fan Club.
After the exciting round of welcome by B Sridhar (who played MC for the afternoon), the fans were divided into 4 categories of their interest: Contests, Meet-ups, Bloggers and Recruitment. After an hour-long brain-storming session, the fans collectively put forward their ideas for the Club. These were discussed, framed and also measured on feasibility for the implementation.
Based on the final round of discussion, 1 spokes-person was selected from each category to represent the group and the plan of action was documented. The first group would ideate on Contests, Online Activities and Quizzes. They also had ideas about what kind of prizes they would like to have. The second group emphasized on the fact that they want to be the Big Fat RCB Fan club with Match watching parties that cheer at Pubs to Running Marathons for the environment. The third group talked about recruitment of new Fans and how we need to have kids in the club. They also asked to be supported by the other three groups. Finally, the fourth group, represented a tight knit, run-saving miser group, which would advise the franchise on content like themed blogs and podcasts.
The Fan Summit 2012 proved fruitful for both, the fans and the Club. The Fan Advisory Board was formed and will soon kick into action running and managing the massive RCB Fan Club. Keeping in mind the motive of RCB: Born in Bangalore; to thrill India, the ideas were crafted to take the Club to become the most engaging Fan Club in India. This was followed by the official launch party for IPL 5.
