Akshdeep Nath first burst onto the scene as deputy to Unmukt Chand in their 2012 U-19 World Cup winning team. He has since shown his versatility to bowl medium pace as well as take the gloves, if required. He led the run scoring charts for UP in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy and also finished with 293 runs in 6 Vijay Hazare Trophy games in 2018-19. The U-19 World Cup winner has realized his true potential in the last couple of years and the consistency that seemed to elude him has come. Playing just 6 matches in 5 years post his debut underlines the stiff competition of places and indifferent form that affected him at the start of his career.
Being the highest run-scorer in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season coincided with star batsman Suresh Raina's slump in form. Before the start of the 2018-19 season, he took over captaincy and hasn't let the additional responsibility get in the way of his batting, continuing his stellar form with the bat and even chipping in with a few overs. The bidding war with CSK was worth it as we convincingly outbid them to snap him up for INR 3.6 Crore.
