Harshal Patel is one bowler who takes failures as a means to grow. It was the third season for the Haryana pacer in a RCB shirt and his performance improved drastically to help him secure his spot in the team. The 24-year-old did his homework, learnt from his mistakes and emerged as a fiery pacer who grabbed the opportunity to shine when the onus fell upon him.
Under the expert guidance of Allan Donald and in healthy competition with Starc, Patel improved his game greatly. He kept his bowling tight with constricting lines, sharp lengths and subtle changes of pace to keep batsmen watchful.
It is for his undeniable hard work and persistence that Patel had an excellent season with the ball. He got a good economy rate for his efforts, picked up crucial wickets too and should expect to be among the 2016 World Twenty20 probables for India.
His defining stint with the ball came in RCB’s mid-season match against CSK. After crucial breakthroughs, Raina and du Plessis were all set to go on a rampage. Harshal Patel was handed the ball and the first thing he did was to knock out du Plessis’ stumps! He followed it up with a clever delivery to Raina who was caught trapped in the front of the wicket and had to head back to the pavilion. CSK got reeled out for 148 when they looked to post a lot more thanks to the genius of Patel.
