The women's IPL tournament has started with a bang, and how! The matches have been tight, nerve wracking and gone down to the wire, with more twists and turns than a masala movie. Don't believe me? Harmanpreet Kaur's Supernovas game versus Smriti Mandhana's Trailblazers went down to the last ball, as the latter's 90 came back to haunt the Indian T20 captain's team.
However, last night, the Trailblazers were brought to their knees, as they took on Mithali Raj's Velocity at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur. The match was full of high voltage moments, including a grand collapse, when the winning team (yes, you read that right) lost five wickets for no runs. The wickets quickly tumbled when the scorecard read 111 (as the late great David Shepherd probably smiled and hopped a little in heaven) even as the team was two runs away from victory.
Smriti must have thought that the noose had tightened around Velocity. Alas! It wasn't to be, because Mithali's stalwarts, riding on Danielle Wyatt's brilliant 46 managed to reach home.
Tonight, however, it's time for the clash of the captains! Our T20 skipper Harmanpreet, still licking her wounds from the last loss, will be taking on legendary Indian captain Mithali, who is on a high after that stunner of a game last evening.
The fireworks just don't stop at Jaipur when the women take the field. A hat tip must go out to the audience, who've filled up most stands of the stadium and are cheering on the teams.
The players to watch out for tonight will be Harmanpreet herself, Danielle, Amelia Kerr and Ekta Bisht.
