Chris Woakes swings the ball away from the right hander at pace and can be a lethal weapon on seaming wickets. His change up balls makes him a useful addition to any T20 team and his batting down the order is an added advantage. He has been a part of the England set-up for quite a while now but it was the summer of 2016 that he realised his true potential as a high-calibre performer!
After a promising stint with his county side, Warwickshire, he was drafted back into the England national team to play Tests against a visiting Sri Lankan side. He was instrumental for England in a 2-0 win against the Islanders, performing with both bat and ball. In the ODI series that ensued, he scored an unbeaten 95, which is the highest score by a number 8 or below in ODI history! He pulled his team out of great trouble as the match ended in a tie. In the following series against Pakistan, he took 5-wicket hauls in both the innings in a Test match at Lords, thus becoming the first player since Ian Botham in 1978 to achieve this feat at the venue. When England toured India in 2016-17, we were all witness to the way he swung the new ball on lively tracks at Cuttack and Kolkata.
Ahead of 2017 VIVO IPL, he was picked up by KKR for big money and repaid their faith in him by taking 17 wickets in 13 games for them. Much is expected from our biggest signing of the 2018 VIVO IPL Auction as he's expected to contribute upfront with the new ball as well as with the bat down the order.
