Zimbabwe born Colin de Grandhomme showed great talent growing up in Harare and played for Manicaland in the capital city. Frequent unrest between the players and the Cricket Board along with the decline in the playing standards saw Colin shift base to Auckland to seek new pastures. Blessed with broad shoulders, he quickly earned a reputation as a hard-hitting batsman but it is also his disciplined medium pace bowling which is an asset that many captains find handy. Successful outings for Auckland primarily with the bat first earned him a place in New Zealand's T20I squad and finally in 2016, he gave the selectors enough reason to give him an opportunity to play Test cricket for the national side.
He grabbed 6 wickets on a seaming Christchurch wicket and also made a half century, both the feats coming in his maiden Test efforts. In October 2017, playing a T20I against India at Thiruvananthapuram, de Grandhomme threatened to nearly win the game on his own with some lusty hitting as Team India defended a small total. In December 2017, he slammed a 71 ball century against West Indies, which is the second fastest by a New Zealand crickteter in Test matches, only bettered by RCB teammate Brendon McCullum!
Colin de Grandhomme was bought by KKR ahead of the VIVO IPL 2017 Auction and his 3/4 against us at the Eden Gardens stood out in that campaign. He was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 VIVO IPL Auction.
