His uncanny ability to vary flight, speed and length rather than just rely on turn has made Daniel Vettori New Zealand's best left-arm spinner for over a decade across all formats of the game.
At 18, Vettori was New Zealand's youngest Test cricketer. Over the years, he became one of those rare players to complete a double of 300 Test wickets and 3000 runs. Some of his best bowling performances have come against Australia, most notably his career-best Test match figures of 12/149 at Eden Park in 2000 – where he ran through the Aussie batsmen with the drift he managed to get out of the surface.
He has been an inspirational figure in the IPL, where he has plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2011. Vettori's experience at the international level both as a player as well as captain and donning the same roles for RCB as a player first and then as a Head coach has enhanced the values of the dressing room. He officially stopped playing in the IPL in 2013, passed on captaincy duties to Virat Kohli and has been RCB's Head Coach ever since! His familiarity with the franchise's dynamics will be an added advantage for the team going into VIVO IPL 2018.
