He has scored more than 14000 International runs for South Africa and has been a consistent opener for them for a considerable time, but Gary Kirsten is better known in India as the man who coached the national team to World Cup success at home in 2011! He was the first man in the world to run 100 runs in an ODI enroute to his highest score of 188, a feat that skipper Virat Kohli just matched. And before the World Cup triumph, his mentorship was instrumental in taking India to Number 1 in Test cricket in 2009 while he also repeated the feat when he later coached South Africa in 2012.
Kirsten joins RCB as a batting coach/mentor. He has also been a member of the Daredevils' coaching staff earlier and recently guided the Hobart Hurricanes to the finals of BBL 07. Gary brings with him a winning mentality and a proven ability to work with local players. Things are looking brighter for an already mighty strong batting line-up and we're sure he'll help bridge the gap between going all the way and clinching the elusive trophy.
