The final round of qualifying matches for the T-20 finals were held on 22nd November at Alur Grounds. While it gave some teams a chance to get some good match time in before the T-6 tournament takes place at the Chinnaswamy the following weekend, the teams in contention for a spot in the T-20 finals were focussed and hungry.
MATCH 1 – GROUND 1 – NETAPP VS SUMERU SOLUTIONS (NETAPP WON TOSS AND BOWL FIRST)
Netapp (100/7 in 16.3 overs) beat Sumeru Solutions (99/8 in 20 overs) by 3 wickets
The first match of the day was between Netapp and Sumeru Solutions with both teams out of contention for a finals spot. Sumeru being put in to bat first, managed only 99 in their full quota of overs through a solid knock from Vinay who scored 41 off 50 balls with 4 fours. Netapp's Pranav Desai took 2-13 in 3 overs.
The chase of 100 runs to finish their T-20 qualifier campaign was easy enough for Netapp with the entire team chipping in to reach the target. Pavan B.S scored 20 off 21 balls with a four and six to his name. Sumeru's bowlers weren't able to contain their line and length with Sai Krishnan the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-19 in 4 overs.
MATCH 2 – GROUND 1 – METRIC STREAM VS HCL (METRIC STREAM WON TOSS AND BAT FIRST)
HCL (64/6 in 7.2 overs) beat Metric Stream (116/4 in 18.1 overs) by 4 wickets
Reduced target of 64 runs for HCL because rain stopped play after 1st innings
With HCL needing a positive result to qualify for the finals day, they were more than happy to welcome the rain which reduced their target from 117 to 64.
Metric Stream would have expected to win with the target with Subashish scoring 31 off 33 balls including 2 fours and 1 six. The HCL bowlers kept things tight as usual with Anup taking 2-25 in 4 overs and would have hoped for an easy chase.
Rain answered their prayers and they had to chase down 64 which they did with ease through Naveen's knock of 20 off 18 balls including 3 fours. Victory and celebrations meant that HCL became the second team to qualify for the T-20 finals after FlipKart.
MATCH 3 – GROUND 1 – NASDAQ VS ITC FOODS (NASDAQ WON TOSS AND BAT FIRST)
ITC Foods (69/4 in 13.1 overs) beat Nasdaq (68 all out in 12.4 overs) by 6 wickets
A chance to put themselves in contention for a finals spot, a low scoring match unfolded between Nasdaq and ITC Foods.
Nasdaq set a target of 69 after being bowled out for 68 under 13 overs with Ganesh top scoring 20 off 21 balls including 2 fours.
ITC Foods' main man, Parameshwaran top scored in the easy chase with a run a ball 19 including 2 sixes. Nasdaq's bowler Ram was able to keep control and give his team a chance of winning with bowling figures of 2-7 in 3 overs but the victory was in sight for ITC Foods.
MATCH 1 – GROUND 2 – ACCENTURE VS EXPERIS IT (EXPERIS IT WON TOSS AND BAT FIRST)
Accenture (79/3 in 8.3 overs) beat Experis IT (76 all out in 14.4 overs) by 7 wickets
With qualification secure for Accenture with a win, this match against Experis IT was a chance to fine tune their match rhythm. The first 5 wicket haul of RCB CCC 2015 was from Accenture's Sirish who took 5-23 in 3.4 overs, wrapping up the Experis innings in 14.4 overs. The paltry target set by Experis was partly due to top scorer Vijayant with a knock of 26 off 30 balls including 2 fours.
Accenture went about their chase with no fuss thanks to captain Ajay scoring 30 off 22 balls including 3 fours and 1 six. A run-out and Sai Swaroop's figures of 2-30 in 3.3 overs were the only wickets taken by Experis which sealed the third finalist for the T-20 format as Accenture.
MATCH 2 – GROUND 2 – TEAM HP VS HP ITO (TEAM HP WON TOSS AND BAT FIRST)
HP ITO (82/7 in 15 overs) beat Team HP (108 all out in 20 overs) by 3 wickets
Rain reduced target of 108 to 82 in 15 overs for HP ITO
Another rain affected match that reduced the target for the chasing team but this time between two competing teams from the same campus – the HP teams.
Team HP set a respectable target of 108 despite being bundled out with the last ball of the 20th over with Anil top scoring 31. HP ITO's bowlers were confident of the job they had done to provide their batsmen with an easy target to chase. Harish took 2-8 in 3 overs and the rain helped them out as well.
Unfortunately, on the other ground, HCL were cruising to qualification for the finals from the same group, Group C and although HP ITO chased down the target with the loss of 7 wickets, in the end, it was in vain.
MATCH 3 – GROUND 2 – VM WARE VS SASKEN (VM WARE WON TOSS AND BAT FIRST)
VM Ware (123/6 in 12 overs) beat Sasken (64/8 in 12 overs) by 53 runs
The only team on the day to successfully defend the target set in a shortened match of 12 overs, VM Ware became the fourth and final team to qualify for the T-20 finals with a comprehensive victory over Sasken.
Batting first, VM Ware scored a mammoth 123 with the help of Khan who scored another 50, this time scoring 53 off 34 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Sasken's bowlers were expensive including Kartik who took 2-35 in 3 overs.
The reason for the big win margin was VM Ware's Sridhar who conceded only 1 run in his 2 overs and took 4 wickets including a wicket maiden. While the Sasken batsmen put up a fight with Subbu scoring 21 off 29 balls including a four and six, VM Ware's stranglehold was too tight for them to escape
Group A: Flipkart – 2 wins, 1 draw (Debutants but energetic as ever)
Group B: Accenture – 2 wins, 1 draw (Seasoned campaigners)
Group C: HCL – 2 wins, 1 loss (Fiery competitors)
Group D: VM Ware – 3 wins (Unexpected and underdogs)
