Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed Madhya Pradesh batsman Harpreet Singh as a replacement for Sarfaraz Khan for the remainder of the 2017 VIVO IPL season.
Harpreet has previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League. The 25 year old left handed batting all-rounder scored 211 runs in 4 games (Avg 52.75, SR 145.51) to top the run charts in the 2016-17 Syed Mushtaq Ali inter-zonal T20 tournament.
Not picked up in the player auction, he went on to rack up 271 runs in 5 matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Central Zone at an average of 67.75.
Harpreet originally broke onto the circuit by scoring 709 runs in seven matches in the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2008-09. He won the best Under-19 cricketer of the season award and earned the vice-captaincy on India U-19s tour of Australia in 2009 where he responded with 262 runs at 52.40. His performances earned Harpreet a place in the squad for the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand where he played with Mandeep Singh, KL Rahul and Harshal Patel.
On his late opportunity with RCB, Harpreet said "I never gave up hope and kept working hard because I believed I may get my chances during the course of the tournament. I was thrilled when I got the RCB call-up 2-3 days ago. It is going to be a great learning experience for me and I'm looking forward to this new beginning."
