Moving from the convention of wiry fast bowlers that India seem to produce, Umesh Yadav is a welcome change in this regard. Son of a coal miner, Umesh actively pursued joining the police forces before turning to cricket in an attempt to make ends meet. Extremely well built and fit, he can clock speeds in the high 140s and swing it at the same time. It's a welcome change for India to have pacers who can swing the ball at such speeds. He already has more than 100 ODI wickets and a cumulative of 200+ wickets for India across all formats.
Before he made his debut for India, he was snatched up by DD in 2010. He toured Australia with Team India in 2011-12 and had a memorable Test match, impressing the great Glenn McGrath. He said of Yadav, " He bowls at a good pace. He seems to have a great attitude and most importantly, he's a wicket-taking bowler." Yadav doesn't wait for the edges to come, he attacks the stumps and being a skiddy customer that he is, makes for a great bowler in T20s!
He has become a mainstay for India in Test matches and is utilised by skipper Virat Kohli in short bursts when he's in need of something special from the Nagpur lad. Yadav's positive attitude is common knowledge and we often see him bowling his heart out for his side. Having represented DD till 2013, he moved to KKR from IPL 2014 until VIVO IPL 2017 and has been an everpresent for KKR. Ahead of VIVO IPL 2018, RCB went to great limits for his services, such is the ability he brings to the Bold!
