Vishnu Vinod is a hard-hitting 23 year old wicketkeeper batsman from Pathanamthitta, Kerala.
Playing for Kerala in India's domestic cricket, Vinod is an aggressive batsman who hit the most sixes, 14, in the 2016-17 Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament and finished with 199 runs from 4 matches at a strike rate of 164.46 including two fifties. He opens for his domestic side but can bat in the middle order and is a handy wicketkeeper too. Selected for the South Zone squad, he made 68 runs in 3 games at a strike rate of 161.90 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. His T20 career figures stand 338 runs at 33.8 and a strike rate of 143.22.
It closed a fruitful season for him in which he broke into the Kerala Ranji side after years of heavy scoring in the U-23 and U-25 squads. He made a fifty on debut and returned with runs in the T20 tournaments and the Vijay Hazare Trophy - making 176 at an average of 44 with a strike rate of 90 to finish as Kerala's third highest run scorer.
Asked about his approach and IPL ambitions during the domestic season, Vinod said "Being aggressive with the bat comes naturally to me. Sticking with that approach has helped so far. I don't intend to change that unless it becomes necessary. IPL is something I've been wanting to be a part of all this time. I just want to go out there and keep doing my best so that selectors can take notice of me."
P Balachandran, former Kerala coach and someone who has seen Vinod grow through age group cricket says, "Vishnu is a naturally gifted batsman and a match-winner. He can tackle both pace and spin with ease. He can pick the ball early and can play in all formats of the game. He's got the ability to play big knocks and score quickly. During my coaching stint, he very rarely failed. He's a brilliant fielder and a handy wicketkeeper too."
