It's my job to hit some sixes and fours – Shafali Verma on her commanding performance against Bangladesh

Shafali Verma played another commanding knock that saw India sail into the grand final of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup at the expense of Bangladesh. Dubai witnessed Verma’s supreme command as she balanced her innings to perfection, smashing 64 off just 40 balls.

Verma hit seven fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 160, a knock that also earned her the Player of the Match award in the semi-final. Talking at the post-match presentation, Verma opened up on the conditions in Dubai while also highlighting India’s approach to the game.

Underscoring the hot and humid conditions in Dubai, Verma said, “Yeah, there's lots of humidity out there and even in the middle also, sometimes I can't even breathe, so I just try to inhale, exhale more and just in the starting, I didn't get those balls, but I'm just trying to play and there's a bit of a chance with the crease. I'm just trying to build my innings, so just this thing happened.”

Reflecting about India’s approach in the powerplay and how they took it further from there, Shafali added, “Yeah, of course, as I said earlier as well, in the first six overs, it's easy to score runs, so we were just trying to take lots of runs in those six overs and I know it's my job to hit some sixes and fours in the powerplay, so I'm just trying to do that.”
