As India prepares to challenge New Zealand in a swashbuckling encounter at the Sky Stadium in Wellington, the Men in Blue’s most experienced fast bowler on tour, Bhuvneshwar Kumar stands in the face of a momentous world record. The seasoned campaigner has so far savoured an excellent 2022 despite occasional slip-ups. Not only has he kept things tight but he has also found himself amongst wickets early in the innings.

With Jasprit Bumrah yet to recover, Bhuvi continues to lead the Indian bowling unit and has so far done a commanding job in keeping things under his control. As an important series against New Zealand kickstarts today, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also be eyeing an important milestone for himself.

Bhuvi has currently amassed 36 wickets in 2022 and if he manages to claim 4 wickets in the series against New Zealand, then he would become the man with the highest number of wickets in a calendar year. Currently, the record is held by Ireland’s Joshua Little who has so far claimed 39 wickets from 26 games in the ongoing year. Bhuvi also became the leading Indian wicket-taker in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Bhuvi has 89 wickets in the shortest format of the game so far from the 85 games that he has featured in for India. He continues to be a vital cog in the Indian bowling echelons of late, especially given the generous lateral movement that the New Zealand pitches have historically had to offer.
