Josh Philippe could be a catalyst for change - Adam Gilchrist

The Australian cricketers returned to the action after a long layoff in the three-match T20I series against England. The visitors, however, ended up on the wrong side of the result, losing the series 2-1 to England. The Morgan-led side exposed a few chunks in Australia's novice middle-order puzzle, which has been a cause of concern over the last few years. Considering that there are so many jigsaw pieces on the floor for Australia to pick up and deal with their middle-order woes, the debate will continue to persist in the upcoming Royal London ODI series.

Former Australia keeper-batsman, Adam Gilchrist, has earmarked Josh Philippe as the potential candidate, who could solve the longstanding issue. "I reckon a guy who, in time, could very well be the solution, whether it's going out at No. 1 or 2 or getting a chance in that middle order, is Josh Philippe, " Gilchrist said.

The Western Australian keeper-batsman came into prominence in the previous edition of Big Bash League, successfully leading Sydney Sixers to the second title. There was immense adulation for his repertoire of shots that he offered to the table. Josh mercilessly dominated attacks with tremendous composure - racking 487 runs in 16 matches at an average of 37.46.

"He's a really aggressive young kid, and just observing what took England to the No. 1 position in the four years leading up to that World Cup victory, was that change in mindset, from the captaincy to the approach to batting, the way that they want to just attack - and you're going to have your train wrecks occasionally. But just as a general statement, a fraction conservative that Aussie batting line-up and a guy like Philippe could be a catalyst for change,” Adam Gilchrist further added.
