Two South African cricketers have tested positive for COVID-19. Cricket South Africa confirmed that the players will miss the specially-arranged culture camp as they have been sent into isolation as per the protocols.

Earlier in July when CSA had conducted COVID-19 tests for the South African women’s team ahead of a camp, three members including one support staff had tested positive.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the board did not disclose the name of those who tested positive.

50 tests were conducted ahead of the camp that runs from 18th to 22nd August. The camp is focussed on the team’s “identity, environment, and performance goals”, features 32 players.

“The testing is in line with fulfilling the organization’s obligation and commitment to control the spread of the virus,” the CSA said in a press release.

“There were no replacements made for the two players who tested positive. All those unable to attend the camp will join the proceedings virtually.”

Amid growing concerns regarding cultural polarisation, the board organized the camp in the backdrop of Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.

The BLM movement gained pace earlier this year after George Floyd, an African-American, was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis, USA.

The movement has found support from different sportspersons who have emphasized on the need for equality.
