The preparations for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League [IPL] have begun in full swing. All the eight franchises will look to apply every set of permutations and combinations to assemble a strong squad in the mini-auction, which is scheduled to take place on February 18.

A total of 814 Indian and 283 overseas players have registered for the auction. Out of the total 1097 players, 207 of them are capped players. Among the 283 overseas players, T20 giants West Indies have the most number of registered players. The list will be trimmed, based on the franchisees' preference.

Let us take a look at the players with the highest base price.

According to the ESPN Cricinfo, a total of 11 players have set their base price at INR 2 crore, which is the maximum base price for a player in the auction. The prominent names that fall under this category are Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, and Harbhajan Singh. Other notable players in the list include Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Kedar Jadhav and Mark Wood.

England's white-ball specialist, David Malan, has listed his base price at INR 1.5 crore. The top-ranked T20I batsman might trigger an intense bidding war at the auction table. Mujeeb ur Rehman, who has plied trade for several T20 teams across the globe, has registered himself under the 1.5 crore bracket. Among others, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Finch, Umesh Yadav, and Sheldon Cottrell have all been placed in the 1 crore bracket.

Coming to the Indian capped players, the likes of Shivam Dube, Karun Nair, Cheteshwar Pujara have their base price set at INR 50 lakhs. Veteran pacer Sreesanth, who marked his return to competitive cricket recently after serving a ban, has also thrown his hat into the ring.

The IPL auction is slated to be held on the 18th February in Chennai with as many as 61 slots to be filled.
