Calm after the storm helps RCB recapture the top spot

There was a dust storm during the innings break, and in hindsight, it was a prelude to a calm that Mohammed Siraj was going to display in the final over of the match. He had all of 13 runs to defend against two young left-handers, one of whom had just hit Kyle Jamieson for three sixes in an over, punishing him every time he missed a yorker.

Siraj had two options, trust his yorkers or opt for something else. And it’s not for nothing that the experts vouch for sticking to one’s strength – Miyan stuck to his new-found magic and sealed the game by 1 run for RCB. The victory becomes only sweeter for Virat’s men who now are back at the top of the points table.

In many ways the victory was a brutal display of RCB’s all-round skill, particularly their ability to bounce back after being pushed on to the back foot.

Earlier, they had most of their premium batters back in the hut before ABD combined with Rajat Patidar to steady the ship, and like he has been doing for a decade now, finishing the innings on a high to seize the momentum.

While coming to defend the target after a momentary break due to the dust storm, they kept chipping at wickets. Although at no point in their defense, they were unaware of the presence of a dangerous Rishabh Pant in the middle.

But in the end, despite Shimron Hetmyer playing a blinder of an innings, RCB, who were aided by the storm that may just have abated the dew factor, had enough in the bank to walk home with two points.
