Exciting to have multiple options - Shubman Gill on picking India's playing XI for Eden Gardens Test
India will be taking the yard for the curtain-raiser of the two-match Test series when they lock horns with the defending World Test Champions, South Africa. Ahead of India’s clash against the Proteas, Shubman Gill opened up on the possible team combination and the potential factors dictating the decision on who makes the cut for the playing XI.
Talking in the pre-match press conference, Gill said, “It’s always a tough call this time of the year, whether to go with an extra seamer or spinner. We’ll assess the conditions tomorrow before finalising the XI.”
He further added, “It’s more or less finalised. The wicket looks different from yesterday. We’ll take a final look tomorrow morning and then decide the spin combination. Spinners, more or less, will decide the game.”
Shedding light on the available options for Team India, Gill added, “We’re lucky to have quality all-rounders like Axar, Washington, and Jadeja. Their records with both bat and ball are outstanding, especially in India. It’s exciting to have multiple options to choose from.”
