Virat Kohli announced his farewell from Test cricket a couple of days ago, and his departure from the format opened up a wild boatload of discussions. Many experts believe that he still had Test cricket left in him while others deemed it the right time for Kohli to call it quits.

Kohli concluded his Test career with 9230 runs from 123 matches. He also left an indelible legacy as the Indian captain, registering a stunning 40 wins from 68 matches while leaving India rooted at the top of the Test rankings for a staggering 42 months.

Talking to the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, Nasser Hussain opened up on Virat Kohli’s greatness. The former English captain said, “I have been a massive Virat Kohli fan over the last 14 years – his stats speak for themselves – but he was so much more than that. It was his aura, swagger, and passion. We know Indian cricket fans, and the game means so much to them. They want their captain to show them what it means to the team, and no one embodied that passion for cricket in India more than Kohli.”

Hussain further added, “He was an unbelievable player. He took India to No. 1 in the world, and they stayed there for about 42 months. He completely changed the way they play cricket. Whoever takes on that mantle has got something to live up to."
