I just want to enjoy my batting – Harmanpreet Kaur on unbeaten knock against Zimbabwe-W
Former Indian women’s team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, led the charge with her bat in Raipur as the Women in Blue dominated Zimbabwe ruthlessly to complete a clean sweep. Kaur bagged the Player of the Match award for her sensational unbeaten knock of 91 as it propelled India to 216/7.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Kaur opened up on the raw emotions after her innings in Raipur. She also shed light on her innings progression while also revealing the hard work that she has put behind the scenes ever since the conclusion of the Asia Cup.
Speaking about what this knock meant to her, Kaur said, “I enjoyed myself in the middle. This is what I'm here for. I just want to enjoy my batting and good that those runs came.”
Explaining her innings progression, Kaur added, “Well, I think the first ball when I hit for a four, that time I realised it's a good pitch and bat was coming nicely to the ball and I think I got a lot of confidence from that shot and then I just thought, let me just, you know, keep going and let's see how it goes.”
Reflecting on the changes she has made to her batting since the end of the Asia Cup, Kaur stated, “Well, I think bat swing is something which is my key, and I just want to keep doing that, keep repeating that in the nets. Again, I just want to give credit to my batting coach, Himanshu bhaiya, who has always been working really hard and understood the kind of batting I can do. Every time when we met, when we spent time in the nets, he just wants me to keep feeling that same pressure in the nets so that when I'm playing the match, I should not feel any extra pressure, and I think his tactics, his thoughts worked really well.”
She concluded by saying, “I don't think there is any pressure anymore. Now, it's all about enjoying myself on the field, and yeah, that's what I want to do.”
