Devdutt Padikkal carved a fine innings on day one of the Galle Test, staying unbeaten for 131 while India posted 288/2 on the board.

Padikkal continued his rich vein of form as he extended his scoring form from the warm-up game to the first Test.

Talking in a video released by BCCI ahead of the second day’s play, DDP opened up on the special innings that was played by him and what were the key ingredients of his batting mastery on the first day. He also highlighted the conditions in Galle and how it played a part on the first day’s play.

Shedding light on his innings, Padikkal said, “I think this knock, was determination for me, you know, playing through that tiredness and fatigue that I was feeling, especially towards the third session. I think it was getting really hot and we were losing a lot of fluids from our body, you know, we were sweating all the time. So it was really important that I was determined enough to, you know, keep going and keep pushing forward.”

Revealing how he navigated the surface, Padikkal added, “Discipline again. It wasn't the easiest of wickets to bat on. I think we had to make sure that we didn't play too many rash shots. We had to make sure that we kept our mind in the game as long as possible because like I said again, when you get tired, it's easy to lose that discipline, and I think as a team we did that well today.”
