I was just bowling to my strengths – Gurnoor Brar on the blueprint of his POTM performance
India secured their second win of the ongoing ODI series after rain played spoilsport time and time again, forcing the DLS method into action. By the time the final interruption of the game came, India were four runs ahead of the finish line. Despite the struggles with the bat, the Men in Blue had an exceptional outing with the ball, which set up the win for Shreyas Iyer and company.
Gurnoor Brar led the charge for Team India with figures of 10-2-30-4. Brar’s exploits included the likes of Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner and Nathan Smith. Brar bagged the Player of the Match award for his scintillating performance. Talking at the post-match presentation, Brar opened up on his bowling plans in Wellington while speaking about the usage of the bouncer.
Opening up on his bowling plan in Wellington, Brar said, “Bowling here in New Zealand, the bounce and the pace really helped me, so I enjoyed it. obviously, in India the pitches are quite flat, so we have to bowl that hard length. But here, there's that extra bounce. So I was just bowling to my strengths, and it worked. If you're a fast bowler bowling at an average of 140 or 142 (kmph), you have to be aggressive as well. But you have to know your limits too. I just enjoy it and keep bowling.”
He concluded by talking about the bouncer which he used very adeptly, stating, “I just try to bowl that hard length, the lengths where batters try to pull. I don't want to bowl it very high; I just keep bowling at shoulder level.”
