Earlier today, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the revised itinerary for the 2022 Women's World Cup. The tournament was originally scheduled to begin in 2021 but had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

India, last edition's finalists, will kick off their campaign against a qualifier on March 6 at the Bay Oval. The Mithali Raj-led team will play a total of 7 matches in the league stage out of which four are against Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England. The other three opponents will be determined based on the results from the qualifying event, which is set to take place in Sri Lanka next year.

A total of 10 teams will be battling it out for three spots in the qualifying event.

The opening fixture will witness the hosts New Zealand facing off a qualifying team on March 4 in Tauranga.

“The pinnacle event for women’s cricket will see 31 matches played across 31 action-packed days between 4 March and 3 April 2022 – the first global women’s cricket event to be played since the Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia back in March. The tournament was postponed from its original window in February-March 2021 with the same six host cities and venues retained for 2022,” ICC said in a media release.

The showpiece event will be played across six cities - Auckland (Eden Park), Hamilton (Seddon Park), Tauranga (Bay Oval), Wellington (Basin Reserve), Christchurch (Hagley Oval), Dunedin (University Oval).
