It is good thing for Indian cricket to have a big pool of pacers – Sunil Josh

As India continue to duke it out in Zimbabwe, a lot would depend on the backs of the youngsters. A lot has been talked about Suryansh Shedge, who was impressive in the IPL while also the return of Mayank Yadav to the side had quite a shade of cynicism laced with it.

However, Mayank rose to the occasion, dishing out a Player of the Match performance in the series opener while Suryansh Shedge will be hoping that the tides turn in his favour after an ordinary outing in England.

Indian bowling coach, Sunil Joshi, opened up on why Shedge should be given more time and how comparisons with others should be kept completely away. In a pre-match interview, he spoke about how happy he was with Mayank Yadav and why India’s excellent talent pool is an omen of great future to come.

Speaking on Shedge, Joshi said, “I believe that comparisons should not be made. Suryansh (Shedge) is making his place in the team while Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube have already made his position in the side. Suryansh is a rising talent and making his place in the team. We have to persist with him. He is working on good things and good areas. That is what we want in T20 formats.”

Shifting his attention to another young pacer, Mayank Yadav, Joshi added, “Even though, Mayank (Yadav) hasn’t been a part of the international side after 2024, it is very pleasing to see that he has come back very stronger. The way he has built his rhythm in the series opener, he really looked good. We have also seen how effective he was in Sri Lanka as well and that is why he has got a chance.”

He concluded by saying, “It is good thing for Indian cricket to have a big pool of pacers. We want to use them at the right time, the right situation and the right opportunity, we just need to keep them prepared. Opportunity can come in at any time and when it comes, they will be ready.”
