It was a childhood dream – Shafali Verma on scoring a century for India

Shafali Verma continued her fine form with the bat as she concluded another Asian Games campaign in clinical fashion.

Verma smashed her maiden WT20I century, coincidentally the first-ever ton to be scored in the Asian Games.

Ever since her late inclusion to the Indian cricket team as part of last year’s World Cup-winning campaign, Verma has conjured one superlative charge after the other.

Talking in a video posted by BCCI, Shafali Verma opened up on the feelings of winning the Gold Medal in Asian Games, a childhood dream come true.

Verma also opened up on the emotion of embarking upon that podium after India thumped Sri Lanka in the grand finale.

Talking about the win, Verma said, “Victory always brings happiness, that’s what I will say. Team unity has really gotten strong and winning more medals and trophies give the team a lot of confidence. We are all happy for that.”

Revealing her childhood dream of scoring a century for India, Verma added, “When I started playing in my childhood, T20 was my favourite format. I think it was a childhood dream that whenever I debut for the Indian team, I score a 100.”

She further stated, “I made my debut in 2019 and since then I have been manifesting that I want to score a 100 in T20Is. It took a long time for me to get here but I’m happy, I’m glad it came and I will try to be in that moment again and again and I am so happy for that.”

Verma concluded by saying, “It's the best feeling, going up to the podium and wearing that gold medal, seeing our flag rise high brought even greater joy.”
