In an explosive announcement, the Royal Challengers Bangalore finally unveiled its new captain for the upcoming edition of the tournament. It was none other than the former South African skipper, Faf du Plessis.

Followed by an overwhelming response from the fans on social media, Faf opened up about his feelings for the franchise and the glorious responsibility that he has ahead of him. More importantly, he was endorsed by two of the sport’s best and RCB legends, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

Faf started by saying, “Thank you very much, everyone. First of all, you said pretty powerful words. Obviously coming in as an outsider, I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity.”

He further added, “I accept that this is a big moment for me and also the standard dynamics that comes along and it is no small thing to trust an outsider, which is an overseas player to do the job of a leader.”

He continued, “My style of doing that is not doing it my way. I will be relying heavily on the experience of not just our domestic players but also our international players. We have got great captains.”

He further quoted, “We also have one of the great leaders in the game, Virat. He will be my shadow and will ensure the fact that we bounce everything off each other.”

Faf continued, “But it’s a huge honour and privilege for me to come across to a big franchise. Watching the video (the one played in the background relaying RCB’s journey), it really inspired me. It was beautiful watching all the memories.”

He concluded by saying, “You (Rajesh Menon) talking about all the lifestyles and how important the brand is and I felt it, sitting in one of the front chairs. It really inspired me and I got excited for what season is ahead. Thank you very much, Hess (Mike Hesson) and the management for putting trust in me. I am really excited to get going. And hope we can put on some good performances for the fans which is obviously called the 12th Man Army. Thank you, guys.”
