It's their form that is important – Robin Singh on how Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can make a difference for India
As the speculations about the upcoming 2027 ICC ODI World Cup amplify, one of the most common talking points that keeps on garnering momentum is about the duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In the long list of pundits who have talked about the two superstars of Indian cricket, former Indian cricketer, Robin Singh, expressed how the two seasoned campaigners can be absolutely critical for the Men in Blue.
Both Rohit and Virat have been in sensational touch in the ODIs. Rohit has scored two centuries and a 92 in the last five international matches that he has been a part of while Kohli has racked up three fifty-plus scores including a ton from the last five innings. In fact, he did get off to a breezy start against West Indies in India’s iconic chase in Guwahati.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Robin Singh highlighted how the two cricketers’ combined experience is going to be of immense salience to the Indian cricket team for the upcoming World Cup. He also highlighted how the two have been enjoying their current headspace and it changes everything for them.
Robin said, “I think experience is one thing. But more importantly, I think it's their form that is important. And of course, you know, with age you have enough and more experience. So that's really not a problem. They know what to do.”
Explaining their mindset at the moment, Singh added, “It's more about staying in the moment, staying fit and keeping playing well. I think they are doing that exceptionally well. So there are no complaints. They definitely will be a big asset to the Indian team.”
Highlighting what formula Gautam Gambhir might be moving forward with, Robin stated, “Look, I think they are trying out as many players as possible. They do have their formula in place. So I am pretty sure Gautam and his team members will have their formula. I am sure he has a way of what he would like to do in the World Cup. What type of players he wants for the World Cup.”
He concluded by saying, “So I am pretty sure they will try and pick people around that strategy to give them enough opportunities to perform and to have the ability to pick the best team going forward before the World Cup.”
