RCB’s director of cricket operations, Mike Hesson summed up RCB's retentions post the retention process ahead of the 2023 season. He highlighted the reasons why these players deserve the spot, keeping in mind the future of the franchise.

Talking about the team's batting top order, Hesson said, “We are pretty comfortable with our top order with Faf, Finn Allen, Virat and Rajat Patidar. It is really a strong top-order for us.”

Talking about Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, Hesson said, “There is a bit of a concern around Glenn Maxwell heading up to the retention phase with a broken leg but we’re certainly wishing Glenn a speedy recovery and all the information that we have is that he will be back well before the IPL and playing cricket. So having that three-dimensional player is obviously critical in balancing the squad out.”

The director also heaped praises about Shahbaz Ahmed, saying, “He has gone from strength to strength. Obviously, he’s playing for India now. We see a big role for him, not only with the ball but also with the bat. He’s progressing nicely there and did a good job for us in the middle-order.”

Mike had a few accolades about Dinesh Karthik, saying, “DK was phenomenal for us last year. Being in that finishing role, he was forcing his case to play for India and performed so well. So, we’re obviously looking forward to having him in that finishing role with the experience that he brings, both with the bat and the angles and the bowling changes suggestions that have been helping the leadership group.”

He concluded by saying, “We have a few talented batters amongst us like Lomror, Suyash and Anuj Rawat. You know that they have got plenty of power, plenty of ability and can play in multiple roles and we think within those three guys, we have got plenty of talent and plenty of flexibility. Obviously, Anuj covers the keeping side, in case we need a replacement for DK.”
