Never easy when you drop a couple of chances – Shubman Gill laments India's loss in 2nd ODI

Despite putting up a fight till the very end, India conceded defeat for the second time on the bounce, suffering a nervy two-wicket loss to Australia in the second ODI in Adelaide that handed the hosts an unassailable 2-0 series win with a game to spare.

Indian captain Shubman Gill, at the post match presentation, opened up at length about the game while underlining the missed chances which hurt India dearly.

Gill said, “We had just enough runs on the board. Never easy when you drop a couple of chances to be able to defend that kind of a total. In the first game, it (toss) was more crucial because of the rain. But in this game, I wouldn't say that much because both the teams played for almost 50 overs.”

Shedding light on the conditions, Gill added, “The wicket was doing a little bit more initially. But I think the wicket settled pretty nicely after 15-20 overs.”

He also had a special praise for Rohit Sharma, who scored an important 73-run knock after playing out testing conditions early on.

Gill stated, “Never easy for Rohit Sharma, coming back and to play some competitive cricket after a long time. But the initial phase was very challenging. Very pleased the way he batted. Fought out in the initial phase. I would say he missed out on a really big knock.”

India take on Australia for the final ODI of the series on 25th of October, hoping to salvage some pride before they roll onto the T20Is.
