Not an irrelevant match: Gautam Gambhir on RCB vs SRH

We are into the last few days of the league stage of IPL 2021, yet it’s unclear how the top half of the table will look at the end of it.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had a slow start to the UAE leg but they got their campaign back on track after three consecutive games, and are still in contention to make it into the top two.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir too thinks that RCB vs SRH is going to be a thrilling affair because so much depends on it.

“It's not an irrelevant match. This is because it's extremely important for RCB. They will know how crucial it is to finish in the top 2. Primarily for this reason, even if you slip up in qualifier 1, you would still have that one extra opportunity to reach the finals of the competition. Whereas, if any side finishes in third or fourth position, all their two months of hard work can be wasted easily,” Gambhir said during a discussion on ESPNCricinfo

“And they now have an opening as well. The other day, CSK lost to the DC, and now RCB only need to win their remaining two matches,” he added further.

RCB will also keep an eye on the run rate but if they win their next two games, it will also be a confident booster ahead of the playoffs.

“Yes, the net run rate might come into play, but Bangalore now have a space and an opening. Moreover, the way they are playing right now, they would definitely hope to finish in the top two,” signed off Gambhir.
