Not many players in the world have his skill set - Shubman Gill on Hardik Pandya
As India continue to prepare for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, one of the key players who could be part of the squad is Hardik Pandya.
Pandya’s all-round presence adds depth to the lower middle order while also giving India a few crucial overs in the centre.
Pandya has been out of competitive cricket since the last edition of the IPL due to a string of injuries. He continues to undergo treatment at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), having been out since May.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of India’s first ODI against New Zealand in Auckland, India captain Shubman Gill expressed optimism about Pandya’s return.
Gill said, “Firstly, Hardik Pandya is a great all-rounder. Not many players in the world have his skill set. As a bowler, you can use him in the different facets of the game. He can bowl with the new ball and the old ball. We have had multiple conversations. He is unfortunate with his injuries. He hasn’t played since the IPL. Hopefully, he will come back soon. He will play some domestic cricket. And hopefully we will get him back in the Indian team soon.”
