Our one focus was to win gold – Richa Ghosh on India-W’s triumph in the Asian Games

Richa Ghosh played a stellar knock in the summit clash of Asian Games, smashing an unbeaten 49 off just 22 balls.

Ghosh’s charge at the end saw India posting the highest ever total in an Asian Games match, also allowing the Women in Blue to register a monumental win, which proved to be their highest-ever victory in a WT20I game.

Talking in an interview post the game, Richa Ghosh expressed her delight at winning the gold medal with Team India while also highlighting the difference between bagging the medal and lifting a trophy.

She also opened up on her celebrations after the end of two successful competitions for Team India.

Revealing her emotions after bagging the gold medal, Richa said, “Feeling very good, everyone is happy because this is what we wanted. Since we started our journey for the Asian Games, our one focus was to win gold and raise the India flag as high as we can, make India proud, that is what we wanted and I think after getting the gold, I think everyone is happy.”

Talking on the difference between wearing the gold medal and lifting a trophy, Ghosh added, “I think the difference in feeling between both, when you stand on the podium and sing the national anthem, so I think when you feel the national anthem there, that is a different feeling and the trophy, no doubt, that is also good, that is also enjoyable for us. So both have a very different feeling, so I cannot make either of them less.”

She concluded by talking about the plans of celebration, adding, “Mine is always that, like, we don't plan celebrations beforehand. We first let the match finish, because it is such an intense match that we don't think about the celebration, but obviously we will celebrate because both celebrations (Asia cup and Asian games) are still left now.”
