RCB Recap 2025: Phil Salt’s assault steamrolls KKR in curtain-raiser

Phil Salt’s debut for RCB was one to remember as the Englishman crafted a superb half-century to help the visitors chase a daunting total at the Eden Gardens.

With 175 required from 20 overs, RCB needed a solid start and the dynamic opener began in fifth gear. The first ball that he faced against Vaibhav Arora was crunched through the covers for four, announcing his intent in style.

In short succession, the ball rocketed to the boundary as he punched Spencer Johnson through the covers, showcasing his class and calibre. Vaibhav Arora had no reprieve at all as he found himself at the receiving end of the stick, with Salt running riot. Salt clobbered him for 15 runs in the following over, smashing two fours and a six.

KKR introduced their trump card with Varun Chakravarthy brought into the attack. The only problem for Varun was that Salt knew no relent. He continued to go on the offensive and he was willing to take the best head on. Salt smashed him for 18 runs, moving to 44 within just 19 balls.

RCB’s juggernaut was already flying and the total on the board kept on dwindling rapidly. Salt completed his half-century with a single against Varun and before the mystery spinner could have his wicket, he smacked him for another four, inflicting further woes on the Knights.

By the time Varun removed Salt, he had already racked up 56 off just 31 balls, whacking nine fours and two gigantic sixes.
