Sri Lanka willing to host remaining matches of IPL 2021: Reports

Days after reports of English counties offering to host the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League 2021 surfaced, another contender seems to have thrown the hat in the ring.

Reportedly, Sri Lanka Cricket too have shown keen interest in hosting the remaining matches of the 14th edition of the IPL on their soil. It’s interesting to note that Sri Lanka were one of the willing parties in 2020 as well when the tournament moved to the UAE and turned out to be a success.

Although, the main headache for the BCCI is to find a perfect window to stage the remaining matches of the league, it’s believed in some circles that once again UAE are the front runners based on how smoothly they were able to conduct the tournament last year when the pandemic was raging across the globe.

Arjuna de Silva, chief of SLC's managing committee, has said that they can "certainly provide a window" to host the IPL in September.

"Yes, we can certainly provide a window to host the IPL in the month of September", Arjuna de Silva told Deccan Chronicle in an exclusive telephonic interview from Colombo.

Silva was aware that UAE was still the top priority. However, he added, "We hear the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is their one option but Sri Lanka cannot be ignored for all reasons".

"We are planning to host the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in July-August and the grounds and other infrastructure will be ready for the IPL in September.”
