Vihaan Malhotra registers his first century in U19 World Cup
The world got the first glimpse of a new menace in the making, Vihaan Malhotra. The RCB youngster scored his first century in the U19 World Cup as he bailed India out of an unpredictable wobble against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Walking out to bat with India stuttering at 101/3, soon to be 130/4, Malhotra took over the reins.
Navigating the treacherous mazes of the Zimbabwean bowling unit featuring the talented likes of Panashe Mazai, Tatenda Chimugoro and others, Vihaan controlled the innings with an unparalleled calm. He completed his half-century Leeroy Chiwaula.
Malhotra was in no rush to get the runs at the earliest. He was focused on playing the neat shots and ensured the fact that the scorecard kept on ticking. After much persistence, Malhotra brought up his century with a slice of luck as his inside edge against Panashe Mazai trickled away to the fence. He followed that up with another boundary to assert his dominance.
Malhotra stayed unbeaten for 109 from 107 balls, smashing seven fours in the process. He had support from Abhigyan Kundu (61) and a late charge from Khilan Patel who got 30 from just 12 balls, saw India putting up a mammoth number on the board.
