Virat Kohli became the 8th Indian cricketer to play 250 matches in One-day Internationals. The skipper unlocked this milestone during the course of the 2nd ODI against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). 

He joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, and Yuvraj Singh in the elite list. The batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar, sits pretty at the top of the chart with 463 ODI matches to his tally. 

Since making his debut in 2008, Virat has taken giant strides in international cricket, scoring 21,901 runs in 460 innings at an average of 47.61. Out of the total aggregate of 21,901 runs, 11,888 of them have come in ODI cricket. 

Notable records in ODIs

  • Virat Kohli is the fastest batsman to reach 8000 ODI runs(175 inns), 9000 ODI runs (194 inns), 10,000 ODI runs(205 innings) and 11,000 ODI runs(222 innings). 
  • In 2018, Kohli scored 558 runs in the six-match ODI series against Proteas which is the most by a batsman in a bilateral series. 
  • The talismanic batsman has slammed 26 ODI centuries while chasing - most by any batsman in the world. 
  • He is the first captain to score five consecutive half-centuries in a World Cup 
  • 11 innings - Virat Kohli became the fastest player to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year. He is also the first captain to hit six ODI hundreds in a calendar year.
