We are happy as a team – Shafali Verma on India’s commanding win against Thailand
Shafali Verma played with terrific command as India razed Thailand in their Women’s Asia Cup opener. Verma smashed 64 off just 36 balls, hammering six fours and three sixes. She was the backbone of the Indian batting attack before things got all gloomy.
She bagged the Player of the Match award for her sparkling half-century. Talking at the post-match presentation, Verma opened up on her blueprint while highlighting the pitch conditions. She concluded by talking about her team’s headspace after a massive win in Dubai.
Shedding light on her batting performance, Verma said, “At the start, I was just trying to place the ball in the gaps. Then, after the new ball got old, there was a bit of hold.”
Explaining the surface, Verma added, “I would say, in the beginning, the ball was coming very nicely onto the bat, and then there was a bit of hold, as I said earlier. So, I was just trying to play late, see the ball, and just hit it in the gaps.”
Verma concluded by stating, “We are happy as a team. That’s what we are planning: just go out there and give everything for our team. So, we did well, and we are so happy.”
